CULTURAL ARTS & ENRICHMENT SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Grades K-12, or Schools with Children/Adults with Multiple Disabilities
CLAY HANDBUILDING: Choose 2 to 4 or more weeks - 1 hour a week. For beginners, intermediate and advanced. Everyone succeeds with handbuilding. It's rewarding, fun and wonderful for self-esteem. Techniques such as coiling, slabs, pinching and sculpting will be introduced. Creating the project usually takes from one to two classes. Some children will create several projects, others will create one master piece. Each child works at their own pace. We transport everything to and from your school. Firing the pieces will be done in our studio. For the finishing touch, we will return with a numerous selection of low fire, non-toxic glazes.
CULTURAL ARTS WORKSHOP: Create the program that best fits your school/institute. Along with the pottery wheel demo, we will have a hands-on clay fest. Everyone will get a chance to carve (sgraffito) a design on to clay and some will assist with pouring slip into molds. The children will be introduced to many types of clay and the cultures that use them. There will be an art exhibit of pottery from different cultures. And best of all, there will be an archeological dig. Each group will reassemble an ancient pot that they unearthed.
RAKU WORKSHOP: The Raku Kiln is portable and run by propane gas. We are able to do demonstrations (with a permit from your town's FD) at your site. Or, you are welcome to bring your class to our studio to view the demonstration. Due to the nature and excitement of Raku firing, it is more suitable for middle to high school ages.
